Do Something

The “Do Something” Principle

Yep, I know this blog is suppose to be a ‘Financial’ related blog. But after reading a book from Mark Manson on the topic of ‘Motivation’, I decided to share it on this blog so everyone can start doing something during this period.

It’s been 6 weeks since MCO started. Luckily, I’d still get to work from home which is a really huge blessing and I definitely enjoy working from home.

When MCO started, did you make a long list of To-Dos that you’d want to finish or achieve? How many of it have you tick off? I’m not sure about others, but for me, I sure have a damn lot on my To Do list.

Study about stocks, finance or businesses was one of them on my list, but I just somehow didn’t ‘know’ how to start studying. So I procrastinate for weeks and did not start at all.

Maintaining this blog weekly is also on my Todo list, telling myself to write an article each week is a big lie. I didn’t ‘know’ what to write about, or I have zero inspiration on what I should be writing. So I didn’t write for a few weeks either.

I’m sure there’s plenty of similar scenario in your life. Like learning how to draw, learning a new language or a musical instrument. People are afraid of the end result, afraid of failure. In fact, you’d just need to start doing it to know the result.
Instead of thinking if you’d do well which you will never get an answer, start by doing it instead.

We always do things by waiting for that certain inspiration to hit you, and then you’d only do it.
The cycle would look something like this:
Inspiration -> Motivation -> Action

Instead of waiting for the light bulb to appear, start off by doing something, anything, and the flow will come to you naturally. The snowball will continue to roll.
Action -> Inspiration -> Motivation

This applies to most aspect in life. When you’re feeling stuck in life, just start off by “doing something”.
I immediately felt all my questions were answered after reading what was written in the book. Which inspired me to start writing, without worrying about the result. You will never know it until you start doing it.

Action isn’t just the effect of motivation; it’s also the cause of it. – Mark Manson, The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck
